Scrapix

The “portmanteau” Scrapix (or Scrappy Helix Socks) are worked using scraps of yarn, faded together using helical knitting to prevent any seam or jog. They are worked toe-up, allowing complete versatility on the yarn you use. Just keep going until you use up all your yarn or until the desired length. There are 3 different toe options, so you can make the perfect sock for you - includes guidance on which to choose.

SIZE
Extra Small, (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large)
To fit 15.5 [18, 20, 23, 25]cm / 6 (7, 8, 9, 10)”/ foot circumference.
Finished dimensions =  13.75 (16, 18.25, 20.5, 23)cm / 5½ (6¼, 7¼, 8¼, 9)” circumference.

GAUGE
36 stitches by 50 rounds = 10cm (4”) in stocking stitch. Check your gauge.

NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES
2.25 mm (US Size 1) needles for working in the round in preferred method for circular knitting; or size to obtain gauge.
(Note: It is difficult to start a toe-up sock on DPNs as the initial rounds are very tight to work on DPNs, preferably work these initial rows on a circular needle and change to DPNs after these are worked)
Stitch markers x 2
Darning needle

YARN
Any amounts of 4ply/fingering weight yarn in a composition suitable for socks.

Guidance meterage for sock with length of leg shown
For UK Size 5 (US Size 7)
182 (215, 241, 274, 298)m / 200 (236, 265, 301, 328)yds
For UK Size 11 (US Size 12)
199 (235, 264, 300, 326)m / 219 (258, 290, 329, 359)yds

The sample pair shown used 5 different colours of approximately 10g - 42m (46yds) each - 50g total for both socks.
They were worked to the Medium size and are UK Size 5 (US 7) length.
Yarn used in sample is Norah George Super Sock
(100g; 425m (465yds); 75% wool, 25% nylon) 4ply/fingering weight. Colourways are from the Norah George Advent Calendar 2017

The beauty of the toe-up construction with scraps is you can stop the sock when you run out of yarn, as long as you have completed the heel.
