Hardybarn Designs’ Privacy Policy

We want you to know that Hardybarn Designs is not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses. In this Privacy Policy, we’ve provided lots of detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, and how we keep it secure.

Why we collect your information

Ordering

To fulfill orders, we collect your email address, your name and your delivery address.  All payments are processed via Woocommerce and we do not store any bank or card details (please refer to Woocommerce’s Privacy Policy for further information).

Mailing Lists

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our main newsletter and MooSend for the Test Knitting newsletter. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice and MooSend’s privacy policy. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing our data protection officer, Joanne Shaw.

Test Knitting

With your permission, we retain personal information that is relevant to the test knitting process e.g. name, email address and any other information that you send us. This is kept in confidence on a secured system.

Digital pattern purchasing

Currently, there is no direct digital pattern purchasing through this website. All purchase links are taken to other sites e.g. Ravelry, Payhip, Lovecrafts, Etsy and Redbubble, which operate their own privacy policies and terms and conditions. We are not responsible for the privacy practices employed by these websites and we encourage our users to read the privacy statements of other websites before proceeding to use them.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

When you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. When you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

An additional cookie will be saved in your browser, if you edit or publish an article. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

We retain personal information we collect from you only where we have an ongoing legitimate business need to do so (in connection with the purposes set out above) and this is securely stored. On a yearly basis, we review all data stored on our system and delete any out-of-date or inactive accounts. You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to our data protection officer, Joanne Shaw at info@hardybarn.co.uk.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
